Original post from 2015:
We’re shocked (and saddened) to hear that Miss Saigon will sing her final notes at the Prince Edward Theatre on February 27th 2016. The show’s original production ran at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane for ten years, so it comes as a real surprise that Cameron Mackintosh‘s epic revival, which opened in May 2014 will be flying off again quite so soon.
Talk is of a Broadway transfer, with productions also planned in Germany and Australia – but we’re hoping for a full DVD release of the show’s gala performance which was recorded last year in the presence of many of the original 1989 cast.

So why has this magnificent revival of such a beautiful show not had a longer life? Have 2015 audiences fallen out of love with love? Let’s hope not, but there will certainly be more than the usual tear in the eye of the show’s audience as the curtain falls after today’s news.

If you have yet to see Miss Saigon in all her glory, you’d better book tickets soon! The production is, in our humble opinion, one of the greatest, most awe-inspiring, and breathtaking shows currently running in the West End.
And if you’re lucky enough to have seen Miss Saigon, don’t you think its time for a film release so that we don’t lose Chris and Kim all over again? Share this post and maybe, just maybe we can persuade Cameron Mackintosh to finally release the show on DVD!
yes and yes. We lost Miss Saigon few years ago without DVD/bluray (but yes for The Miserables anniversary). Why not a DVD for the Miss Saigon 25th anniversary? I think this is a C. Mackintosh mistake! I have seen M.Saigon at the Drury Lane years ago and a week ago at the Prince Edward (coming from Barcelona!!). I only can tell to Mr. Mackintosh, Please! do the DVD!
I shall be seeing Miss Saigon (D.V.) in February. Having seen it 5 times, London, Bristol and Manchester I hope Cameron will produce the DVD of the anniversary performance, if only for the brilliance of Johnathan Pryce! Come on Cameron ,DO IT!!
yes please lets have a dvd release as my wife is disabled and would love to see miss saigon on her tv.
Hi! The great news is that Miss Saigon has now set a cinema release in the UK towards the end of 2016, so a DVD release is bound to follow. Hopefully that’s in time for Christmas!
Also if this helps http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/access/ – I do understand that your wife may not be able to get to London to visit the theatre, but the people at SOLT (whose site the link is for) are very helpful. Scroll down on the page and you’ll see all sorts of resources to try to help those with access needs visit London’s Theatreland.
As long as Jon Jon Briones continues forever as the Engineer…his performance outdid everything I have ever sen
in a musical in the theatre, and he is the most superb, brilliant, flawless actor and singer. I long to see him on the dvd.
Cannot wait for Monday! Lets just hope the postman doesn’t buckle under the weight of all those dvds 🙂
