Firstly, an apology. We’re about to use the C word. Christmas….and it’s still only August.
While we’re used to stories about the high cost of West End Theatre, even we were a little shocked at the news this week that a festive trip to Elf – The Smash Hit Musical will cost up to an eyewatering £240.00 per ticket. The show will star Kimberley Walsh (Girls Aloud, Strictly Come Dancing, Shrek The Musical) alongside Joe McGann, Jessica Martin and Ben Forster (Jesus Christ Superstar).
Our advice is simply to avoid the uber-expensive seats. The Dominion is one of those theatres which, because it was once a cinema, tends to have pretty great views wherever you sit.
With even the cheapest seat on offer £51.80 (plus fees), a Christmas trip to Elf is a hefty investment for families this Christmas. It’s tricky to know whether to advise you to book early while there are still plenty of the cheaper seats available, or to wait for the show’s producers to decide to discount seats, which we think there’s a fair chance they may have to…

…unlike this coming winter’s other scorching hot ticket, Funny Girl. Sheridan Smith has now proven beyond all doubt that she is pure box office gold. The entire run of Funny Girl sold out in just a few hours, setting a new record for the Menier Chocolate Factory. Gutted that you didn’t get a ticket? The best bet now is to sign up for updates from the Menier website in the hope that if they’re holding back a few tickets, or announce an extenstion, extra dates, or even a West End transfer.

Funny Girl runs from 20 November 2015 – 5 March 2016….
On the subject of missing out (or not) – if you haven’t already done so, we’d strongly advise registering now for what is sure to be 2016’s hottest ticket of all – J K Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The show apparates in to the Palace theatre next year – be amongst the first to know when tickets go on sale!

Elf The Musical tickets are available now!
The show runs from 24 October 2015 – 2 Jan 2016

What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a ticket? We’d love to know!
I paid 78 GBP once, to see Jude Law in Henry V. That was a bit painful – especially given the Polish zloty to British pound exchange rates (yes, I need to travel 900 miles to see a West End show, and I’m insane enough to make such trips several times a year) – but well, sometimes you just have to…
