Harry Potter & The Cursed Child: Preview Reactions Round Up

Could the Palace Theatre be seeing the end of Press Nights as we know them? There are a month of previews, but already the internet is ablaze with comments from audience members, soundbites and buzz from the Part One of the hottest ticket in the West End: Harry Potter & The Cursed Child. So what are people saying?

**Please be aware that many of these pages are being updated so may at any point contain plot spoilers over which we have no control**

For The Telegraph, Hannah Furness reports:

“The script, written by Jack Thorne and John Tiffany around an original new story by JK Rowling, is fast moving and, most importantly, funny. But for all the laughs and tricks, this story also promises to be a thriller. Has Rowling done it again? The audience was in no doubt.”

There’s a Cursed Child round-up here at Slash Film with all sorts of images and twitter comment from a wide variety of sources including Baz Bamigboye @BazBam who described the show as “Spine chilling!Brilliant!@HPPlayLDN !To be continued in part 2.”

The Daily Mirror’s Clare Fitzsimons slightly sketchy account reveals little, but does say:

“…it’s the children who steal the show along with all the drama of the books and films, a lot of laughs and some fantastic special effects. JK Rowling has made sure the audience will be back for part two with a cliffhanger ending to the first part.”

Time’s Entertainment site brings audience reactions to Harry Potter & The Cursed Child and, like others focuses on an escaped owl backstage…which no doubt kept the stage crew busy!

From what we’re hearing on the box office grapevine, JK Rowling, John Tiffany & Co have a most magical hit on their hands. One un-named industry source called the show “simply the greatest thing I have ever seen on a West End Stage.”

We expect the buzz to grow and grow when Part II is put before an audience hungry for more Harry Potter!

If you’ve seen the show, add your voice – just no secrets!
