From this October, Proud Embankment’s sell-out show Cabaret All Stars welcomes the West End’s favourite leading lady, multi-award-winning Kerry Ellis. Kerry will headline this circus-cabaret spectacular every Friday in October and November alongside its show-stopping International Cirque de Soleil acts.
At From The Box Office, we were lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with Kerry to talk more about the show, how she’s been handling life in lockdown, and her plans for the future.
This year has undoubtedly had a huge impact on the theatre industry. How does it feel to finally be back on the West End stage?
I am beside myself with excitement to be back performing in Cabaret All Stars at Proud Embankment. Performing alongside a line-up of incredible artists is pure joy. I think it’s exactly what people need right now.
What can audiences expect from Cabaret All Stars?
They can expect to have their minds blown! The talent is amazing, the show is lots of fun and provides the release and escapism everyone is looking for right now.
The show features some incredible acts. Is there an act that you would love to do if you could?
I’d love to have a go on at the aeriel – everyone knows I love my yoga so I could maybe throw a few shapes on there!
Cabaret is a little different from your usual West End musical roles. What is it that you like about it?
It has something for everyone! With huge shows like Cirque closed right now, we are blessed with some of their amazing cast members. I think this is a rare occasion to see so many worldwide superstars in one night on one stage.
From Eliza Doolittle to Elphaba, you’ve played some of the top musical theatre characters of all time. Is there a character you’ve dreamt of playing that you’re yet to tick off the list?
Evita, Roxie Hart, and lots of things I’m not quite old enough for just yet: Norma Desmond, Gypsy, The Baker’s Wife.
During lockdown, a lot of people took to baking banana bread or doing jigsaw puzzles – what did you do to keep yourself sane?
I’ve been busy selling my latest album Feels like Home (available on www.kerryellis.com). I’m also writing a book, did a podcast, Keep Calm and Kerry On, and have been teaching a bit online.
Do you have anything else in the pipeline at the moment?
My diary is trying to fill up! There are lots of things bubbling, I just hope they can happen. But for now I’m overjoyed to be performing in Cabaret All Stars at Proud Embankment.

Finally, do you have any words of advice for aspiring performers?
Hang in there. Work on your talents now, so that when things do open up, you’re ready!
You can see Kerry Ellis in Cabaret All Stars at Proud Embankment every Friday in October and throughout November.
