When is Wicked coming back?
Wicked returns to the Apollo Victoria Theatre this September, and tickets go back on sale on Monday 17th May, so set your alarms and be the first to welcome the Wonderful Witches of Oz back to London!
When did Wicked first open in London?
Wicked’s first preview in London was 7th September 2006. The show officially opened in London on 27th September 2006. Now, this truly spectacular show returns 15 years on looking brighter, fresher and greener than ever before! There are rumours of a Wicked Movie in the pipeline, but truly, nothing beats the live experience. Wicked is the only West End Musical that is truly gravity defying!
What is Wicked The Musical about?
Wicked is based on the Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Maguire’s novel was itself inspired by the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Maguire’s story begins in the magical Land of Oz, before the time that Dorothy Gale (played by Judy Garland in the 1939 MGM movie) crash lands, killing the Wicked Witch of the East.
Wicked tells the story of her sister, Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) and reveals how she came to be Wicked. But this isn’t just the story of one witch – it is a tale of friendship told through her time at Shiz University with Glinda, The Good Witch. Unfortunately, they both happen to be in love with the same man. Sparks fly, but will friendship prevail…and can Elphaba prevent dark forces from tearing the two friends – and Oz – apart? The score features stunning songs including Defying Gravity, The Wizard and I, For Good and the comic masterpiece, Popular.
